Upgrade Options for Kitchen Cabinetry

One of the most popular ways to remodel a kitchen is to upgrade the cabinets. There are basically three different options available. The one you choose depends upon your goal for your kitchen. Do you want to add storage area and reconfigure the space with custom kitchen cabinets, or are you looking for a purely cosmetic change?

Refacing

If you’re satisfied with the configuration of your cabinets and just want to change their outward appearance, refacing is the easiest and least expensive solution. The relatively simple process of refacing involves replacing the drawer fronts and cabinet doors, as well as placing new overlay over the cabinet sides. Since the interior of the cabinets remains the same, refacing is not necessarily considered a true upgrade.

Ready-To-Assemble Cabinetry

Ready-to-assemble cabinetry offers an upgrade to the cabinetry itself as an alternative to custom kitchen cabinets. It offers the following advantages:

  • Easy to install
  • Wide range of designs, finishes, and styles
  • Quality hardware and solid construction

You have the option of installing RTA cabinets yourself or hiring a contractor to do it for you if you do not have the time or inclination.

Custom Kitchen Cabinets

For people who know exactly what they want and are willing to spend a little extra to get it, custom cabinets are the ultimate answer. With custom cabinets, you get a tailor-made solution to your cabinetry issues. You have complete control over the materials, styling, design, and configuration.

You should be aware, however, that all this customization can come with an extra price tag. This is the highest quality upgrade that you can get, and so it involves additional cost. If your wishes extend beyond your budget, you can compromise with a semi-custom cabinetry option. This will give you some individual input into the design, as well as the ability to change certain dimensions. You will have fewer options, but you will also pay a lower price.
